MEGA was tossed in New Zealand in 2013 by Kim Dotcom. Mr Dotcom detached all ties with MEGA in 2015 but continued growing and prospering. At this review, the Service has over 166 million registered users worldwide.
Where is MEGA’s cloud storage data kept?

I have read the latest MEGA Terms of Service (ToS). This long and detailed document entered into force on December 18, 2020. Everything in the Terms and Conditions by New Zealand law, including any necessary arbitration.
Interesting points in the terms and conditions:

MEGA security audits and other third-party tests
I could not find any information on third-party audits or certifications. In 2013, you launched a vulnerability rewards program that pays up to $ 10,000 per bug discovered.
According to this MEGA Reddit post, the program is still active, with the last bug bounty paid in early 2021.
MEGA also publishes the source code for client-side applications (see Transparent Source Code later in this review). It at least gives a glimpse of what the code does.
In short, while I have no motive to doubt that the Service is working as advertised, there does not appear to be any third-party verification
